Mary Sheeran will be leading this Sunday’s service. Lay Led services are held occasionally at CCC. The service is designed and led by a member of the Congregation and features a message and/or theme chosen by that person. A uniquely CCC concept, they are always worth attending.
Mary Sheeran (Episcopal) has been a member of CCC since 1987. She served on its board for several years, including one as Chair and two as Clerk. As Chair, she was invited to audit a class at Union Theological Seminary. Inspired, she enrolled at New York Theological Seminary, at first auditing classes, but ultimately earning her Master of Divinity degree in 1996. As part of her curriculum, she did field service here at St. Peter's, where she was active in their liturgy and education committees and served on the vestry, the altar, and in the choir. A classically trained singer, she sang opera leads downtown and created cabaret shows on 46th Street. She's acted in off-off-Broadway plays and musical revues and performed in summer theater in the Midwest. To make a living, she became a medical editor, which is how she met Hilda Regier and CCC. In 2006, her first novel, Who Have the Power, was published about the effects of silver mining in the west on the Native peoples. She's since had three other novels published, two of which have won awards, and she is working on number five. She earned her B.A. at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana, and grew up in Washington, NJ.
